RALEIGH, N.C. — The seasonal temperatures that arrived over the weekend are here to stay through the next several days, and the longer term outlook keeps it cool, WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said.

Temperatures will reach the low 80s in Raleigh on Monday before settling into the 70s for the rest of the work week.

A cool front that passes late Monday will bring a chance, but only a chance, for rain showers on Tuesday. "Unfortunately, it looks like we might just be sandwiched right in between two systems, with lower rain chances in central North Carolina," WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell said.

Because the front passes through the Triangle overnight, the air will be more stable, reducing the chance of a storm, Campbell said. Meanwhile, a disturbance in the Atlantic will likely form into a coastal low front as it approaches North Carolina.

Between the two systems, the mountains and the coast both have a 50 to 60 percent chance for rain. That drops to 30 percent along the Interstate 95 corridor and across the Triad and Charlotte and to 20 percent in the Triangle and Sandhills.

All told, less than half an inch of rain is expected to fall in central North Carolina over the next five days, Sheerwood said.

7-Day Forecast

"The temperature outlook for Oct. 13-19 shows fairly normal temperatures in place for most of North Carolina, but below-normal temperatures to our north," Sheerwood said.

The dry weather could be a concern for the western half of North Carolina, where a lack of rain has many counties showing moderate drought conditions.
