FEMA recovery center to open in Dare County

A short-term disaster recovery center will open in Rodanthe on Hatteras Island at noon Saturday to help survivors with property damage and other setbacks from Hurricane Irene.

RODANTHE, N.C. — A short-term disaster recovery center will open in Rodanthe on Hatteras Island at noon Saturday to help survivors with property damage and other setbacks from Hurricane Irene. 

The center is located at the Rodanthe Community Center at 23186 Myrna Peters Road. The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. except Sunday, when it will be open 1 to 6 p.m. The center will close Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. 

Representatives from North Carolina Emergency Management, FEMA and other agencies will be at the center to explain assistance programs and help survivors apply for disaster aid.

Those hoping to obtain FEMA aid should bring a social security number, total household income and a complete list of damages and losses.
