FEMA disaster center to open in Bertie County

Windsor, N.C. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency will open a short-term disaster recovery center in Windsor at noon Monday, Sept. 26 to help survivors with property damage and other setbacks from Hurricane Irene.
The center will be located at the Bertie County Council on Aging at 103 W. School St. in Windsor.
After it opens Monday, hours for the disaster center will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will close Friday, Sept. 30.
Representatives from North Carolina Emergency Management, FEMA and other agencies will be at the center to explain assistance program and help survivors apply for disaster aid.
Those hoping to obtain FEMA aid should bring a social security number, total household income and a complete list of damages and losses.
