Fayetteville, N.C. — A Cumberland County woman is the first person to win a $1 million top prize in the new North Carolina Lottery Crown Jewels scratch-off game.
Sherrinne Reece, of Fayetteville, bought the lucky $10 ticket at the Rayconda Exxon on Raeford Road.
She claimed her prize Friday at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
Reece decided to take home the lump sum of her winnings. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $423,009.
Crown Jewels launched earlier this month with six top prizes of $1 million and six prizes of $50,000. Five top prizes and five of $50,000 remain to be claimed.
