She went shopping for soap, cleaned up with $200K lottery win
A trip to the store to buy some soap led to a $200,000 lottery win for a Fayetteville woman.
Posted — UpdatedDoralee Preston-Price said she went grocery shopping at a local Food Lion on Monday, but left without buying the bar of soap she needed.
“I figured it would be cheaper to go to the Dollar Tree nearby. They were closed, so instead I went back to Food Lion,” she said.
During her return trip, Preston-Price decided to buy several holiday scratch-off tickets and a $5 Mega Bucks ticket. She left them in her purse until Wednesday, when a movie reminded her of her purchase.
“I remembered I still had the scratch-off tickets in my purse,” Preston-Price said. “I scratched the first ticket and didn’t win anything. I scratched [the winning] ticket and got through the first row but went back to watching the movie because it was a dance scene. I almost threw the ticket away, but then something just said, ‘Look back down.’”
When Preston-Price finally finished scratching her ticket, she couldn’t believe she actually won. She called her mom to meet her and look at the ticket.
“When she told me I was looking at it right, I lost it,” she said.
Preston-Price and her mother immediately drove to lottery headquarters in Raleigh to claim her prize. After taxes, she will take home $141,003. She plans to use some of the money to take her husband and son on a Disney Cruise.
