Extra security is in place Monday at Fayetteville Technical Community College as police and the SBI investigate a social media threat.

The college reached out to students, faculty and staff and is working to address the threat with the Fayetteville Police Department, the Spring Lake Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation.

FTCC will continue normal operations on Monday but with heightened security measures. Classes will operate at their normal times and locations.

Increased security measures will include:

  1. Limited access to college buildings – main doors will be the only public points of entry, as during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Increased presence on FTCC properties by campus security and local police.
  3. Required, visible display of College ID badges at all times by FTCC faculty and staff. Faculty and staff should take note of this requirement.

The College is urging students, faculty, staff and visitors to be security-conscious at all times:

  1. Be aware of your surroundings, walk with friends or co-workers when possible, and trust your intuition. If a situation makes you feel uncomfortable, notify FTCC Public Safety & Security (910-678-8433).
  2. If you see anything that makes you feel uncomfortable while on campus:
  3. Call FTCC Security (910-678-8433 or via a campus call box)
  4. Should you encounter an emergency – call 911
  5. Add FTCC Security’s number to your cell phone contacts and opt in for faytext alerts at this link.

Anyone with information that may be helpful regarding this situation should contact FTCC’s Public Safety & Security office – 910-678-8433 – and the Fayetteville Police Department – 910-433-1529 (non-emergency) or 911 (emergency). Information may be provided anonymously.
