FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Cumberland County teacher was arrested Thursday on charges he engaged in inappropriate conduct with a student.

Authorities received information Tuesday that an Ireland Drive Middle School had made inappropriate comments to a student. An investigation found that the teacher used Snapchat and emails to engage in explicit and suggestive conversations with the student, authorities said.

Richard Anthony Thomas Jr., 31, of Yellow Ribbon Drive in Fayetteville, was charged with five counts of indecent liberties with a minor. He was being held in the Cumberland County jail under $375,000 bond.

His employment status wasn't immediately available Thursday.
