FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The "all clear" was given at Fayetteville State University at 7:15 a.m. on Monday morning after a report of an armed person on campus.

According to the university, an employee told campus police at 5:30 a.m. that she was approached by three people while she was sitting in her car. She said one was holding a handgun, but it was not pointed at her, and the three did not try to rob her.

The campus community was incorrectly notified that an active shooter was on campus, according to FSU. A later amendment said an armed person was on campus.

WRAL began receiving tips from students about an active shooter situation at 6 a.m.

At 6:30 a.m., Fayetteville State University's public information officer said there was active shooter on campus, but university police said an armed person is on campus.

There is no threat to the community, the school later said.

The incident the employee reported remains under investigation.
