FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A deal cut between the City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County will result in lower bills for city homeowners.

The county Board of Commissioners agreed Monday to provide $300,000 a year to the city. In exchange, the city will authorize the county to operate the Ann Street landfill, which is technically city turf.

The city plans to split the $300,000 among the single-family households who pay the county solid waste fee, at a savings of about $5 off the current $42 per year.

Mayor Tony Chavonne said he expected the deals to be finalized later this month, and the savings to be reflected in bills next year.
