Fayetteville police seeking answers after shooting sends man to hospital

A man was in critical condition Tuesday after a shooting in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police are looking for answers after a man was shot early Tuesday morning in Fayetteville.

Around 2:30 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Turnpike Road. At the scene, they found the man lying in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. The man had been shot multiple times, police said.

The man was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was in critical condition Tuesday morning.

Someone called 911 to report the shooting, police said. No arrest has been made.

"They have interviewed several witnesses, but they also have information that several witnesses fled before police arrived, so we're encouraging those folks to come forward with any information," said Jeremy Strickland with the Fayetteville Police Department.

The shooting is under investigation. No suspect information was provided, but police said the shooting was not random.
