FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville Police Department has ended its investigation into a possible child abduction at the 3000 block of Benson Place.

Police received a report at around 7 p.m. on Monday afternoon that a man in a white work van tried to "lure a male juvenile" into his car.

The woman who reported the incident told WRAL News a white van pulled up next to her child. The driver did not get out of the car and did not grab the child. He then drove off, according to the woman.

Shortly after posting a photo of the white work van to Facebook, the police were able to track down the man who owned the truck. He said he was contracted to paint in the area and was not trying to lure any children.

The Fayetteville Police Department said they take reports of possible child abductions seriously, which is why they posted a photo of the van and sent out a media release.

The situation appeared to be a misunderstanding, according to Fayetteville police, and no one was arrested or charged.
