Fayetteville police searching for man after early-morning sexual assault

A similar incident was reported at Briarwood Apartments on Jan. 24 and it is believed that both incidents were committed by the same suspect.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Special Victims Unit are investigating a sexual assault they say took place Friday at approximately 4:37 a.m. in the Briarwood Apartments on Owen Drive.

Police say the woman was asleep in her home when she was awakened by a man entering her bedroom. The man sexually assaulted her, then fled the area on foot.

The assailant was described as a Black male, 20 to 25 years old, 5-foot-5 or 5-foot 6, with a thin build and a thin mustache. He was also was described as wearing a dark-colored jacket, dark pants with red shorts underneath and colorful shoes.

A similar incident was reported at Briarwood Apartments on Jan. 24, police said they believe both incidents were committed by the same man.

Residents in this area are asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to 911.

In addition to these incidents, Fayetteville police are also investigating a sexual assault that occurred on Nov. 24, 2020, in the 1000 block of Southern Avenue and a home invasion committed in the 2100 block of Hyde Place on Feb. 17. Detectives are attempting to determine if all four incidents are related.
