FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police are searching for a man that they believe is involved in a shooting that killed 21-year-old Nicoda Melvin this month.

Travis Edward Jefferson, 27, has been charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Jefferson is considered armed and dangerous has not yet been located.

The aunt of the Nicoda Melvin told WRAL News on Wednesday that Jefferson was Nicoda Melvin's boyfriend. Court records show that Jefferson has an extensive criminal record.

"I don't know anything about him," said Tiana Melvin, the victim's aunt. "I just know that was her boyfriend, and for him to be so heartless is devastating."

Nicoda Melvin was shot in the head and killed days before her relatives Konye Melvin, 16, and his cousin, Marquez Melvin, 19, were shot and killed on Sept. 22.
Marquez Melvin, Konye Melvin and Nicoda Melvin all died in shootings in Fayetteville this week. Officials are investigating to see if there is a link between the deaths.

Another member of the family, Maurice Melvin, 19, was transported to a hospital on Sept. 22 and was in critical condition. There has been no update on his condition since then.

A fourth gunshot victim was not named, but officials said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Officials are investigating to see if the Sept. 22 shooting at the 1100 block of Charlie Drive is related to the Sept. 19 shooting. The two shootings took place at homes around 7 miles apart.

Tiana Melvin says she believes the two shootings are connected.

"I could be wrong, but that's just how I feel," she said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Senior Sgt. R. Quick at 910-677-5503 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS.
