Police said Wednesday that they were investigating the shooting of a 2-year-old in Fayetteville.

<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — A two-year-old who Fayetteville police said grabbed a gun and shot himself on Wednesday has died.

Detectives were notified Saturday evening, officials said. The shooting remains under investigation. No further information, including the name of the child, was released.

WE EXPECT TO GET THESE QUESTIONS ANSWERED SOMETIME THIS EVENING. I HAVE NOTICED A FEW DETECTIVES AND OFFICERS, OUTSIDE THE HOME IN THE LAST FEW MINUTES CARRYING WHAT APPEARED TO BE EVIDENCE, BAGS OF EVIDENCE, FROM THE HOME. OF COURSE WE WILL STAY ON THE STORY AND KEEP YOU POSTED THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT ON WRAL.

2-year-old in 'critical condition' after shooting

Lt. Gary Womble said three other people, two adults and one teenager, were inside the home. He said the child suffered "at least one gunshot wound" and went to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill in critical condition.

"In my opinion, any gunshot wound is serious, especially when it happens to a juvenile. It's even more serious, and more serious for us, in our investigative methods to find out what happened," he added.
