Posted — UpdatedDetectives were notified Saturday evening, officials said. The shooting remains under investigation. No further information, including the name of the child, was released.
Police said Wednesday that they were investigating the shooting. Officers responded to the 600 block of Mosswood Lane at about 10 a.m. and found a wounded boy inside the home, police said. Both parents were home as well.
Lt. Gary Womble said three other people, two adults and one teenager, were inside the home. He said the child suffered "at least one gunshot wound" and went to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill in critical condition.
"In my opinion, any gunshot wound is serious, especially when it happens to a juvenile. It's even more serious, and more serious for us, in our investigative methods to find out what happened," he added.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective B. Pleze at 910-676-2596 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477
