FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man is in the hospital following an early morning shooting.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the McDonald's at 3701 Bragg Boulevard. Officers said a shooting occurred five minutes down the road at the 4900 block of Galveston Drive, near Sam's Club.

The shooting did not occur in a home and the shooting does not appear to be random, according to officials.

"The events leading up to the shooting are still under investigation," officials said.

A man in his 20s was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He received surgery but was expected to recover.

The victim's identity will not be released to the public.
