FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.Fayetteville police released the 911 phone calls from the deadly Nov. 6 shooting at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

In them, you can hear the panic and fear in the voices of those calling for help.

"Fayetteville 911 What’s the address of your emergency?" A 911 dispatcher says on the phone.

"There’s a gun shot in the ER ... Oh my god there’s a bunch of gunshots. Please hurry, emergency department," the person who made the call said.

"Ma’am OK, OK," the dispatcher said.

"I gotta go, I gotta go," the caller said before hanging up.

The shooting happened just after 8 a.m. on Nov. 6 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Police told us a Cumberland County Sheriff's Office deputy and 31-year-old Treva Smutherman got into a "scuffle" and Smutherman tried to grab the deputy's gun.

"We just had gun shot," a caller said to a 911 dispatch as gunshots were heard in the background. "Multiple gun shots are going off in the emergency department now. We’ve got ourselves locked in one of the rooms."

Officials said Smutherman shot the deputy and was then killed by a responding police officer. In the phone calls, multiple witnesses said they heard multiple gun shots.

"There was just a gun shot in the hospital," another person said in a 911 call.

"Give me on second OK," the 911 dispatcher said as you could hear gunshots.

The Fayetteville Police Department identified the officer as Det. Tyler Newman, 30. Smutherman was laid to rest Wednesday.
