Fayetteville police officer on leave after nightclub fight

A Fayetteville police officer has been placed on leave after getting into a fight in a nightclub over the weekend, police said Thursday.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville police officer has been placed on leave after getting into a fight in a nightclub over the weekend, police said Thursday.

The off-duty officer, whose name hasn't been released, was involved in an argument with someone at Secrets Nightclub, at 912 Bragg Boulevard, on Saturday. The argument quickly escalated into fight, and both the officer and the other person had to be treated for injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, police said.

The officer and the other person know each other, police said.

The officer reported the fight to superiors, and the Fayetteville Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit is conducting administrative and criminal investigations of the incident.
