A Fayetteville police officer in a patrol car hit a pedestrian Thursday night, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville police officer in a patrol car hit a pedestrian Thursday night, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined that the officer was westbound on Raeford Road at about 7:30 p.m. when the car hit a woman in the road near the Bunce Road intersection, police said.

The woman was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer wasn't injured in the crash.

One outbound lane and the right turn lane onto Bunce Road were closed as the Fayetteville Police Department Traffic Unit investigated the incident. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area.
