FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police are investigating a fatal shooting and assault that happened at 6111 Regis Court just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers found one man dead from a gunshot wound and a second man who appeared to be the victim of an assault. Other people who were inside the home at the time were uninjured.

Police said the shooting and assault stemmed from a dispute inside the home. Neighbors said they heard car tires squealing as a car sped out of the neighborhood after the shooting.

Regis Court is a cul-de-sac in the Hollywood Heights subdivision, off Skibo Road near Raeford Road.

No charges have been filed, but a Fayetteville Police Department spokeswoman said officers aren't searching for any suspects and there's no threat to the public.

The man who was assaulted was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, but his condition was unknown Wednesday evening.

Police said he was talking with investigators.
