FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police chief Tom Bergamine will be staying in his position after not being selected for a chief of police position in Kansas City, Mo.

The Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners voted to select Kansas City Deputy Chief Darryl Forte as its new police chief Thursday.

Bergamine announced in early September that he had been selected from a pool of 54 applicants as one of five finalists for the job.

Bergamine was named Fayetteville's police chief in April 2007 after spending 29 years with the force. He worked his way through the ranks, making sergeant, lieutenant, assistant chief and finally chief.
