Fayetteville police chief marches with protesters
Fayetteville Police Chief Gina Hawkins marches with protesters in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
I abide by the laws, Laws and look killer are different than laws in other states. Right? I come up being transparent and organizations in states where it exists. Personnel files. So I will follow whatever laws they should be public. And no officer that has more than five disciplinary complaints. She should be fired automatically. So here's the thing. Come behind the scenes. That's the next thing. What? We come get higher. Come get high. Come apply. I I've been this color on my life. It didn't just start up. I don't wake up with this uniform. I've been fighting against righteousness. The right thing Justice. That's what we But that's what we're about Set again from I was born in Columbus, Ohio the But I will make sure that police, with her form police in the communities that that is the expectation. Exactly waiting. The police chief is talking to this group of people, so I'm gonna leave her up on camera way around the o your excuses way. No, no peas, Peas. Peas. Yes, I'm here now. Way really didn't say where we're walking to wear just out here walking, you know, definite tryingto get the people engaged. Let them know that cops are out here care. So we didn't really set a mark. As long as the chief is willing to walk with us, we're within the walking, willing to talk anything that helps Chinese community way don't have a market. Thank you. Thank you a lot. They're coming. I don't see walking on Clifton Road and they will take a look at this crowd here and in the middle. You'll see in her white shirt the police chief Hawkins walking with these people who just stopped for a few minutes and they had a little bit of a conversation asking more questions about Hold on, hold on. I'm processing today. I will converse in my role later. But I'm part of the community right now. Tell me why you want to wait. What's out? Get out The straight than somebody with right now. Look at the three. Getting some people are way by my love. Now be careful. I'm here because we've been sharing The police department is the community. That's why we're here. We've been We condemned the axis. Let's go white. We condemned those actions from the from the way we've been wanting to be a part of protest. We've been wanting to speak out against the actions we've been wanting to say. We hold each other accountable. Now we have this opportunity, especially about the other day, to express that Hawkins, the fatal police department were walking. We're gonna keep walk with them. I asked them with their plan was where they're gonna walk until they say they're gonna be out here until the police chief out here with them. However long that takes along this march takes them. But take a look at this group. You can see cars feeding as they go by watching it. Some other police officers here it Well, you heard the chief say this is what they wanted. They wanted to come out here on and prove what happened and look with the community because, like she said, there are a part of the community and she said they're going to have a conversation about what to do and what this means for them in the future. And we're gonna keep walking and I'll send it back to you. That's I just ah, a lot of our work way. We'll be now How? No, no, no, way black? No, just No, no, no, no. When you say you Taylor, Rhianna Rihanna, I would not say Ma, you say Ivory, Amman, Amman We're not saying Trayvon. You saying morning trip on my tribe are more when I say Sandra, you say black Sandra Sandra When I say ready, you say great, Great. When you say great Oscar Oscar would not say Might you say brow my my When I say shot, you re agree When I said to hear you say Right, right, right. We're not saying, Eric, you Thank you. You thank Graham nor way, way on your bike. Way, way. Yeah, no way way. I know it's just a lot at once. I mean, it's it's overwhelming. It's it's humbling. Um, it is all about unity one. And like everybody else, we shop in the same places way go to the gym in the way we live in the same neighborhood. I mean, they go to the way all lived together, same neighborhood. All of us live right over here for the black community. And seeing that we weren't doing that, the roads were closed. Testing, other than breaking the curfew will be honest. I mean, but other than that you gave me. And I bet you're worried that you would come out here today at five. We was trying to get you out here early. Used. Let me check my pop pop. So I definitely respect for just coming out here humbly in the black community and taking that walking, doing what you said because we've been lied to over the last few days. You know what I mean? Katie standing right here in the flesh. We're glad that he's still with us, You know what I mean? But it's so much bigger than Katie is so much bigger than me. And it's so much bigger than Javaid Chief Hawkins Favorite TV. You know what I mean? As long as we can continue to come together Unified. You know what I mean? Understand really what's going on in the world because it's crazy. We don't have time. The filling gaps for police officers lying to minorities. You know what I mean? Way got to take care of each other and really just come together. That's the biggest part. I have kids. I have daughters. Anybody that know me know I love my kids. You know what I mean? I ain't nothing. I wouldn't Do you know what I mean? So with that being said, they are black females growing up in a society that is judging those that have color on the skin a certain type of way. So it is very imperative. But I just wanted to appreciate you for taking his walk with and then you down to ride. You want Cliff deal with this? She wanted to wait. I want to protest with you. But we also have a row Way have to make sure is lawful. So as long as a lawful was the time when we had just invite us, we want to come, you know, with a community that's here for then. Then we take the ownership of listening way. Take the ownership of explaining, educating, empowering. We've been empowering everybody. So in educating, how can we show the rest of this nation? One thing about one of my favorites fibula is a family man. Everybody got cousins that are like, you know, So that's how I go. That's I go sometimes. But we just got to find a way to sit at the table to eat and they realize that everybody human, rather you protest. And I'd rather you a police officer, whatever and everybody that core, You're human, you know, saying we gotta find a way to live in this city together. And I mean, we got set the example for fair Village and favorite said it is up for North Carolina and so on and so forth, you know, saying But everybody, everybody can My voice right now I start with you. Let's start with you. You can't wait for somebody else to do that, man. You got You got to do that way. I'm not by saying, you know, we can talk directly to you. I called my phone, so I pulled up and I said, I don't know. Well, I've but think out what I seen. And I put upon you al Mercedes in front of all these cameras. Remember that every time it happened. Yeah, Walmart got told, people trying to market house whatever. You know why, right? You'll understand. Why way been knowing what? Okay, so now it's all see, why is like, can we get really action rather than that we can hollow, hollow, hollow We can sit here and talk. We could sit here and talk all that look good on the Internet. I mean, it's really good on in an ankle. It's everybody. See, I come out hairdressers I really came I just because I wanted to tell you, Ray Bu and I will rather had a conversation with all without all this county will be able to do that. But, like really like these people, just peaceful there could be the same people if you don't deliver on your promises. But here's the thing with that what's the solutions? Way of thinking. But it got to be. We can't sit there. You can have a conversation taking pictures like we could see they have a constitution all day. But don't let that happen. That walk about them. Does people gonna be back out here? That's what I start exactly. Absolutely. And the real talk is explaining these actions. Hey, didn't just all some pop up and have a place of young in the community? This is who we are way. Listen and we hear and we understand and we empathize. And we're looking for solutions. We come with our own thoughts, right? Way got to here for the solutions and see How do we plan it out? How does the game roll out? Right, So But remember, we're only a small part, right? This is a little bit. It's a federal that's a federal way committed to my role. There's many other roles that we need to help people, right? We're gonna take care of all roll protest about everything. Every system, healthcare system, in this way all picked up. It would have. Could have really went back. But y'all long to call. Damn go. I'll see anything like that, President. I even had a picking up with a way we was doing out there. Game was rights. Not even God can't even say y'all isn't yard work. You know what? Given the right to go do that. So he went and did a young ground among That's crazy. We understand me as a person. I understand the National Guard downtown. So they got there have been a big thing. He was taken some time. Not only that, but let me explain something for the road for the role of conversations. And I know that's nothing. I wanted to be a Yeah. Listen, listen to what I'm about to say the promise that was provided was not off writhe that was not authorized. That was good tea. Oh, you are talking about You know what I'm talking about? His name and the reality I'm telling you playing and told everybody promises that were offered way. You think you know about how can that happen without reviewing? Investigate? Give back the way you do that on the norm. Understand? Got video. Here's what we talk about talk about but with change. So in the aspect of what we're doing, I've been willing to have conversations and I've been available the Republic public. You know why? You know has a thing. Why can't be having public your your state models don't allow that. So that's what I don't control that don't work. What game? Make a public statement about the investigation. So understand the conversation. That's not about today. We out here for the protest way out here because of police and community justice way. I'm not individual about way Have those conversations. You have had this conversation, I count, but I had to pull up because I seen it. But can you really call me to tell me to stop. That's right. You know what? I did it anyway, because it was because it seemed like it was going I was going to happen. You didn't have any control over the same way. We don't want anyone attaching to think that you have something to do with violence, right? You want to be able to be pro tested, but not a test that you is what I was trying. Now the community wants to do this piece. I know, and I know there's threats that don't want that to happen. Just comes with nature. A 1,000,000,000 exact you gonna have is causing effects. When I'm saying if if the world really can't understand why black people are upset, why we're mad. We've been oppressed for over 400 years. You know what I'm saying? We're still getting pulled out of cars, detained, shot, traumatized. And if you really don't think that we don't have PTSD from seeing our brothers being murdered on the street in cold blood, I don't know what else to say. Here you keep calling. Well, you're here with us because I understand. Yes, yes, yes, My apartment. So $90 before it started. How None of us probably was before. This is starting, but we got work to change it. Let's go ahead and mark way. Please. Please, can you way. Way. Yeah, yeah. Thank you. We live on. Yeah, way. Walk out. Water. Right way I got anything that. Okay, Okay. Already. All right. Yeah. With that way, tell me what this is. What this is all about is it's about family all coming together and want to change that. I feel like our voices are her family feels like, you know, nobody really cares. So we can get that feeling that, you know, we matter, We care, and our voices can be heard. That's what's important for me. Personally. I simply went live on Monday, and I have people coming at me with questions that they want to be answered. And I feel like I feel like it's Mr, but I feel like I feel like all the questions that people have should definitely be answered simply because the best way to stop the quote unquote Lewin the quote unquote riding is definitely just to answer the people's questions. Make the make the people feel like their voices matter, you know, It's all definitely ticket to get the chief to come out here to get other officers that come out here, walk and hold up signs. They're showing that somebody cares because many people were saying the knee didn't matter name and what people don't understand for me. I wasn't looking at the knee. What mattered to me was that was a young lady praying as she looked at a cop in the cop was in tears and the car was rotated out with another cop. If that doesn't show you right there that they want these costs to stand strong, it's a so put up a certain facade. That's that's what's wrong with the system. We need to see that cops have compassion, and that's what this is about. So this right here is showing us as a nation, showing us a spare bill, that cops are important because they are here with us. Now that they're not standing up with sticks, we don't have the National Guard. I hear we have cops walking with us, and that's what's important. That's why we're here today, Chief, that that's important and the chief said it herself should an accident, But I hear that came because they wanted to be. So that's what that's what's important. That's what matters. Federal. And that's why I'm personally here today. But everybody who could not be here My name is my tr Warren. I'm between two year old black female and I love to stand up for people who can't. So that's why I'm here today. Your mind. My name is what along? You ready? My name is M y T H t a e. Why a are a My last name is Warren W A R R E n and I'll be out here every chance I get way question. Personally, I would speak on a personal level and see what I get from the community. Me personally. What I want to see is I want to see more opportunity for our voices to be heard and not not just people but young people. So many young people are leaving, and it said, I feel like, you know, we need more of opportunity. We want to hear from cops. We don't want formality. We don't really care about the uniform we care about. The person is behind because I think that uniform that make a person is the person in the uniform. I stand on that coming from a community standpoint and Theo questions I've been getting a lot of people care about the market house me personally. I'm a say this publicly. I was not for burning or busting out any windows of the market house. And I say that because if you want to make a change, the Chinese don't come from burning stuff. They don't come from busting windows. It come from sitting down at a table and say, How can we make a change if the market house is gonna be gone? It's going to go on the correct way, not because we have citizens did it, and now somebody locked up because it was going the wrong way. So it's still messed up altogether. But as a community care about the market house they care about, they care about Mr Katie. That was another big theme. They cared and want to know why he was detained. Why was he tased by time? Yes, that is correct. He was detained Monday. We were walking on Bronco Bronco square on some some things took place. Way had the SWAT Team National Bar all that come out, And that's another thing we feel like, why it's cabinet Resource is being used in a negative way when there, so many other places that these officers can be when all you have to do is come and talk to us the cheese things that she came out here that she answered questions. She said things publicly. All we want to do is being heard. That's it way. Don't ask for anything else. I don't think it's hard. We simply want to be heard. That's it. And that's coming from somebody. I am a 2017 graduate of these in high school, African American, predominantly school. So you mean to tell me if I could stand out here? Others could stand. I get to all we want us to be heard. And now now it's finally happening. So now federalist, peaceful. It wasn't people Saturday night, but if you notice over curfew over the past couple days, we've been peaceful because people are listening. As long as you listen, we peaceful. That's all we want to change. And that's all I got to say on that gentleman right there. Where did you get a shot of them chatting. Okay, wait, I don't Let's go of yeah, every no way you got way, way, way, way don't every day because I'm responsible for more than just me. It's about me and my community. It's about my grandchildren. It's about the men and women that every day suffer at the hands of injustice. And it was more important that our support to show that they support and that means a lot in the community were already suffering because I want her to be able to say I went to a march of my grandmother and I want you to remember that I have no power that we have in protest in whatever way we do. You have power. And that's what I want her to remember. Tom O B a. M you brown way, way, way, way, way, way, way have he told me way, way to go her, you know? What's that mean? One way our call it out. It happens internal because trust me how we treat each other way that is not tolerate. My policies are public. No way, Way, way. I don't want you anyone. You anyone here you talk to her way. Wait way. You're doing a great feeling. It's a good villain to be here. Months. The community. You know, we're out here trying to support everybody, but, I mean, unfortunately, we're here for someone dying. But the thing that that I'm excited about it that we haven't People come together as a community for a good cause. That's the main thing right now. Just Yes, Yes, it is it, especially a positive environment. So, yes, I'm hoping everything remains Thanks, Zour. Anyone be and K s l A u G h. Thank you. All right. The way I feel like cars. Yeah. You didn't make it. Didn't make it way. No way. Would have been a paper trail way with All right, Right now, you know, way right way. You know I'm not somebody way. Wait, he's out. Good. It's a way that checks everybody go more smooth. Wait on the camera, just like we're talking. Okay. All right. Okay. Tell me why you're here and here for black people is not right for people for black people to be killed by white officers because it's just not fair for them to be killed. And tell me what you hope people learn from seeing all these people not not kill anybody and everybody should be safe and peace Food and read your says black lives matter Rianna. My name is Dan and e a cold. Not awesome. I'll give you an elbow. Thank you way. You know you are way. You mean way? No way. What? Right. Wait. Three. I can't breathe. Are you going? Can tire when we protest. Got you. Now way. Remember that? I got a tender moment. Yeah, Yes, I said she in charge of everything. Wait. A lot of people here. Thank you the wrong way. No way. Right. All right, with cool. Thanks. How many people to come? I know. Way, Theo. Stand by. It's pretty straight friends against. I'm originally, if they're alive in Fayetteville were on Riley Road in the middle of about 300 protesters marching down the road. And, Faye, they'll take a look at this. There are police officers here, and at the front of this march is the police chief, Gina Hawk, And she is walking with the community. She said this is something they wanted to do because they are part of the community. We're gonna be here. We're gonna be walking with that. You're gonna hear from the chief in some of these protesters on WRL News at seven. Player. Wait. You want my motion? You're walking now. We're circling now we're coming back Way. Somebody help!
