Fayetteville murder suspect caught

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — U.S. marshals on Thursday arrested a suspect in slaying of a Fayetteville man last October.

Kenneth Michael Burch, 21, faces charges of first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling in the death of Ernest Demetrus Rogers, 36.

Police said that someone fired shots into a house along Old Shaw Road on Oct. 21, 2010, and a bullet struck Rogers in the head. Authorities have not disclosed a motive in the case.

Burch was placed in the Cumberland County Detention Center. Information on his bond was not available.

Burch was convicted of conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in 2009 and served two months in jail, according to state Department of Correction records. He also has a misdemeanor drug conviction from 2008.
