FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff's detectives arrested a Fayetteville man Tuesday for trying to burn down his house while his roommate was inside.

Witnesses said they saw Robert Franklin Capel, 47, of 5745 Holland St., push pine straw against the house, pour on gasoline and set it alight.

Detectives said Capel had an argument with his roommate earlier that day. The roommate, whom detectives did not identify, was unhurt.

Capel faces felony charges of attempted first-degree arson and burning of personal property. He was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he was held on $20,000 secured bond Tuesday afternoon.
