FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff's detectives arrested a Fayetteville man Friday and charged him with multiple sex crimes against a girl.

Rudy Derrick, 50, of 2086 Birchcreft Drive, was jailed under a $1.6 million bond, authorities said.

Derrick allegedly became involved with a 13-year-old girl in October 2007. Investigators say he threatened the girl and engaged in inappropriate sexual activities during the past three years.

He faces one count of a crime against nature, 27 counts of a sex act, 12 counts of statutory rape, 14 counts of second-degree rape, two counts of second-degree sex offense and 27 counts of taking indecent liberties with a child – all of which are felonies.

Derrick is scheduled to make a first court appearance Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Cumberland County Detention Center.

The charges are the result of a joint investigation by sheriff’s detectives and the Hope Mills Police Department.
