FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police say a man charged with the first-degree murder of his girlfriend turned himself in a week after her death.

Willie Earl Moore, 27, is the boyfriend of a 911 dispatcher, Tanajwa McMurray, 31, who was found shot to death in her home Oct. 11.

Officers were looking for Moore, who is also charged with possession of firearm by felon after the shooting at a home in the 6400 block of Pittsfield Drive, where the two lived together, officials said.

McMurray was five months pregnant with Moore's child at the time she was killed, according to police. The baby did not survive the shooting.

"She would always sacrifice a lot of things for her siblings [and] sacrifice a lot of stuff for her family," said her mother, Tasha McMurray.

Tasha McMurray said her daughter had moved to Fayetteville to take care of her. She was smart, caring and loving, according to her mother.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for Tanajwa McMurray's funeral expenses.
