Fayetteville man arrested, charged with murder in August 2021 motel shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — U.S. Marshals have made an arrest in connection with the shooting death of a Spring Lake man last year in a motel room.

On Thursday, the U.S. Marshals Services arrested Donald Edward Payne Jr. at an apartment on Tiffany Court in Fayetteville.

Payne, 38, of Fayetteville, is charged with first-degree murder. He is accused of shooting and killing Erik Darnell Anderson on Aug. 11, 2021, at a Motel 6 at 3719 Bragg Blvd.

Authorities took Payne to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he remains under no bond.
