Two events in Fayetteville on Thursday are focused on fighting gun violence.

Fayetteville City Council members will gather at 5 p.m. for a special meeting to address the problem with a focus on public safety and police recruitment.

Fayetteville's quarterly crime report shows a drop in crime overall, but homicides are up by almost 40%.

Last week, Fayetteville city leaders announced $850,000 would go toward crime prevention strategies. Some of that money will be used to add security cameras around town and install gunshot detection systems.

The Fayetteville Police Department still has many openings. As of Sept. 30, 82 positions were not filled.
