Fayetteville Democrats rally in opposition to Trump's visit
Democrats rally in Fayetteville hours before President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a rally there Thursday night.
the rally. First nobody can. I'd like some of our local leaders. I think responsible began. But after I'm walking to pay those State university, we are a part of the trial. HB seen population here in North Carolina, which has the most students enrolled in of any state in the nation and here on campus. As we approach this, a little one thing has become abundantly clear. Young voters like myself see what's at stake. We are the generation that is going to be impacted the most by the choices of the next press, and we are voting not only to determine the next four years, but the rest of our lives. Like many others, students here have made sacrifices due to this virus we have lost, loved and lost on lost out on college experience. We will never get that. That is why, in just one week we're going to change the course of history and elect the ticket that is looking out for the future and for students. Like over the last four years, our generation has seen the people we elect directly impact their lives, and now I'll turn it over to the fantastic Senator Kurt Debbie Air from I think you hear me. Okay. You must be moving closer, so make sure you say social distance here. Yeah, Thank you. Take Juan. Uh, it's great to be on fs you today. As a former trustee, it's always a pleasure to be back on campus faith that we have four days, four days of voting to get this steak back on track. Back on the right track. We need everyone that's here and everyone in the sound of my voice to make sure you get out and vote over the next a few days. North Carolina is clearly a battleground state. We need to make sure we show up and turn out the vote. Over the last year, I've seen our community struggle and suffer because of the failures of the current president, Donald Trump, who will be in place no later tonight. This pandemic has taken far too many lives in North Carolina, especially in the communities of color. We need leadership during this time in our country. I wish I could say that Donald Trump has risen to the challenge that this pandemic has presented. But the truth is, he has He's completely failed to meet this moment in my constituents are the ones paying the price for his failed leadership. The last seven months have been a case, study and failed leadership. Instead of a steady hand to guide us through this crisis, we've had industries, misinformation and incompetent mhm. He knew how dangerous this pandemic waas, and he didn't tell. He knew That's not leadership. That's not the leadership. I know. As a result, unemployment across our communities like ours is rising, the virus continues to spread, and we're nowhere closer to getting the situation under control than we were six months ago. But the good news did say they'll is that in just a few days we can vote for new leadership. We can choose the president who will follow science, listen to the health, that expert and get us out of this mess that Donald Trump could have been. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have a real plan to create millions of good paying jobs and to give America's working families the tools and freedom they needed to build back better. But we can't stop there. We have to elect leaders up and down the ballot here in North Carolina, who will work with Joe Biden and Biden administration to get our country in our state back on track. We've got to elect leaders like Kim is just into Congress and we've got to put our governor Roy Cooper, back in office as well. It also means that we have to elect a Democratic majority in the General Assembly to invest in our schools, protect our environment and raise wages and finally expand Medicaid. I'm here today also with with future congresswoman tax payments. Gibson to say a few words I'm sorry, Mayor Mitch Colvin to say a few words. Thank you so much, Senator Debbie Air. What an honor it is to be here. My alma mater, Federal State University Aziz, Mayor, working to lead our city through various crisis. The 2020 way have faced in 2020. We're asking as we know, that President Trump and his team will come in today for another event. We're asking for once can we put public safety on the forefront? But being here with you today and sing all the energy and excitement in the final days of this campaign gives me hope that we're choosing a new direction, a new North Carolina in a state that seals the deal. In recent months, I've watched my constituents, who has taken a hit by Donald Trump and Mike Pence I tried to tell us that the virus wasn't really didn't pose a threat. African Americans and Hispanics are dying at alarming rates, citizens like family or being left even further behind. It's time to change that. Working families in North Carolina shouldn't be forced to pay a price for these bad policies and a box response as he prepares to come here tonight. Well, that president, and give a statement to Mr President, it's simply you have failed to start week and citizens of this community will hold your responses. But I sent it to Debbie. Air has just said that we can't leave it to that because Joe Biden, Kamala Harris they need allies in Congress who will support their agenda, protect workers, expand affordable health care insurance and support our military families and veterans right here in the city of Fairfield. And with that, I would give way to our future Next congresswoman, Miss Pat. But thank you so very much, Mayor Colin Breathing all of you here. I am packed Good tonight. I'm the proud Democratic nominee for Congress in the Eighth Congressional District. You know, I've had some difficult days off late. I have a mother that's 86 years of age, and so many of her friends are also up in tape. I've watched them isolated in their own home, going from room to room, watching the television and the difficulty news. I've seen that wait for a phone call to provide a connection. So just somebody. Yes, these are difficult days, but I want you to know off late. I've been encouraged. I've been encouraged because of the large number of our citizens that I see standing in line patiently. So vote. I don't believe those individuals are standing in line. So vote for the status point. No, I believe that they're there to register their voice, indicating a need for change. They will to change the leadership, Celeste, to provide really leadership that's going to guide this country. I believe they want to elect leaders that take an oath and then follow through on their own toe. Uphold the promises that they have made President Trump assume a promising economy. And he said that he was going to return the Great Day of America. He's going around promising more jobs and less corruption in Wash. But as I stand here today, I see an economy in shambles. I see working families across this country and across the eighth Congressional District struggling, and I see a mismanaged healthcare crisis that's raging out of control because our president administration did not have a plan. And, I stress continues, not toe have a plan all over this country. Records for being set for daily covert 19 cases We have some great state leaders, such Governor Cooper here in North Carolina, that have done a fantastic job working to keep people safe. What our present administration in Washington has let them down. We need leaders that won't make excuses. We need leaders. They were going toe work hard to build bridges and get this going back in the right. Correct. Joe Biden has been in a tough situation where in a car economy has been. He's handled that before and I have every reason to believe that he will handle this tough situation and he'll know what to do. Prince, we need to get out and we need to vote. We need to vote for the rial change in this country. North Carolina. We are on the brink off turning this nation around. There is so much at stake here, and that's why it's so important. Forced to get out and vote early, North Carolina has made it easier our than ever for us to get out and vote. We have expanded sites all across our state, not to mention the absentee voting and the in person voting on election Day. So we've just five days, I believe, until the third of November, eso that we can vote and put in place the kind of leadership that we all deserve. I hope to see all of us. Agriculture. No, there's a great deal of power in the vote. That's why I believe that we're seeing the great efforts all across this country to keep folks from voting. That's because those individuals know the power that there is going to vote. Come on out. North Carolina, Let's vote and let's turn this country around. All the speakers Take question. Um, the area. So yeah, area. I'll say that my opponent, Richard Hudson, failed to hope on a very important piece of legislation in chronic. He cited as a reason that he was quarantined. Yet we see him here in Cumberland. We'll see him in Cumberland County with the president and then the presence of large groups. I don't understand that, Um, he evolved. Anybody ought to know the danger in connection give this violence. Yet it's called participating in what is potentially a huge spreader. I'll say that Kamala Harris. Can Joe Biden have taken the steps at all times? All of us say that is what we see. We're points is do both things that are necessary. Okay, not only our future potential leaders, but also the how concerned are you that after the election there might be unrest and protests and even violent? Well, certainly we hope. Not way talked about this some sort of cities perspective. We're planning for the worst case scenario, hoping for the best have a great community. We feel that our citizens understand the process of democracy, and we hope that they will accept the results. So But we have made preparations. There are anything that happens, Mitt. Uh, certainly we're gonna maintain the public sector of this community at all costs So we've talked about a number of scenarios, but certainly we will not allow disruption and disorder. Thio control lies fire. Yes, I don't think so. I had a mask that was early on, initially after the virus came out. You know, operating under your First Amendment rights is important to me and many others. And we've seen that, um, we haven't had any evidence appointed that any super spread had taken place at that protest. And so I think that's a distraction. The people you're trying even and it President Trump came toe tradable regional about a month just five weeks ago. And this is the second time and about a month and Powell concerning wasn't for you to see all those people gathered even though they were outside. Most of them didn't appear to wear mask as the mayor of this community. How How concerned are you about these rates? Anytime you see activity that jeopardize public health for the citizens here in this area, in our city, in our community, is concerning to me, we have thousands of people who are not social distance or not mask. After learning the potency of this virus over the last 78 months, Um, quite frankly, somewhat irresponsible soho, that they will not make the same mistakes. And we're asking President Trump and his team to please emphasize we need people in our community where I'm at. What would a Biden presidency look like for North Carolina? Maybe you want to speak to this a state senator. So I think first and foremost we'll see leadership from the start. And that's really what our state needs from a national level. Like I think you're going to see a partner for healthcare. We know our state has to expand Medicaid and he'll be a partner force in health care as we recover and build back better from this pandemic. Economically, he's going to ensure that we don't leave anyone behind. And that means all these all these different communities that have been impacted disproportion. I think when you look at as we move forward, as we look at the industries, as we look at as we look at our environment, as we look at the different things across North Carolina, I think we're gonna have a solid part in the bike administrator right here. Obviously, that's a big help. Yeah, as a veteran and I'm social, A lot of veterans. I think what we're seeing right now is veterans. They're standing up there just like me. They're tired of seeing people left behind across our across our state, and we're moving forward because they want to see leadership. And again, the players that we've seen in leadership from this president president does not resonate with most military members. They're used to seeing leaders lead, and that's what I want to see. I think you're seeing more military members, both veteran, the military families step forward and have a voice. We're in a lot of past elections. They kind of sat on the sidelines because in the military, you know, when you served as your commander in chief, you become kind of a political in a lot of ways. But I'm seeing more and more not only here in Cumberland County, the home before Brad, but across the state that people are stepping forward and saying, we gotta we gotta make a stand and we've got a We've got an insure that we have left a leader like to do about it. Word for that, Um, I have heard from the military concerned about the rights of our service members that are serving abroad, being able to vote. The military is aware of those individuals that are hiding and seeking to limit the acceptability of ballot. Uh, that come in election day. Who there? Thrown over the postal service? You know, I'm serving my country abroad. I want to vote. The military has been voted ever spent, you know? But the first part of the station And here we have folks wanting toe to stop it, and they know that they know who's doing that. And they know who stands up for their interest. I believe. What you wanted to see. Nobody else. Thank you. Thank you guys very much. Yeah. Yes. Yeah, it wasn't. You wonder. Yeah, yeah.
