FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a man wanted in a rash of home break-ins.

Ronald Tavarus Thaggard, 22, of 583 Judson Church Road, turned himself in shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Warrants for his arrest were issued earlier this week.

Thaggard is charged with seven counts of breaking and entering and other related charges including felony speeding to elude arrest.

Detectives said Thaggard; Ramone Haison Ethridge, 27, of 425 Sherman Drive; and Christopher Michael Epps, 16, of 107 Bruce Lane, allegedly kicked in the doors of four apartments off Elk Road in Fayetteville on May 1.

A pregnant woman called 911 and hid with her 4-year-old child in the upstairs bathroom after she heard the front door of her apartment crash open, authorities said.

Deputies in unmarked cars tracked the three suspects in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee to Whitfield Street in the Massey Hill community. The men abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Deputies caught Ethridge and Epps in the parking lot of Massey Hill Classical High School on Southern Avenue.

Ethridge and Epps both face felony charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods.

Thaggard was on probation for a conviction on carrying on a concealed weapon in February 2007. He served 33 days in jail for a previous probation violation in 2003.

Thaggard is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $22,000 bond, as well as a no bond hold by the U.S. Marshals Office.
