Do you ever feel like a drill sergeant in the morning?

Lately, I feel as though our days start out with me barking back-to-back commands.

“Hurry up and finish your breakfast!”

“Get dressed and don’t forget your shoes!”

“Brush your teeth….we’ll be late!!!”

The short time we have together in the morning consists of me hurrying our children out the door, and that doesn’t make me feel so great.

And we won’t even talk about the brushing of my daughter’s hair. I’m sure all of my neighbors can hear just how well that goes every day.

There’s got to be a better way. I try to let my kids sleep as long as possible, but then I feel so rushed to get them ready in time for school. Is the answer to wake up earlier? Should we be going to bed sooner? How can I make our mornings productive and loving all at the same time?

Perhaps my daughter said it best as we drove to school the other day. “Mommy, waking up makes me tired.”

Me too, baby. Me too.
