Father shoots boy, 12, Winston-Salem police say

A 12-year-old boy was shot by his father who was intoxicated and handling a pistol early Saturday, Winston-Salem police said.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 12-year-old boy was shot by his father who was intoxicated and handling a pistol early Saturday, Winston-Salem police said.

Police responded to calls about a shooting at 1503 Williamson Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. They found the boy, who had been shot in the chest with handgun.

The boy was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He was listed in critical condition Saturday morning.

Police arrested the boy's father, Francisco Xavier Garcia-Cisneros, 35. He was charged with felony child abuse and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Garcia-Cisneros was being held in the Forsyth County Jail under a $160,000 bond.
