ROXBORO, N.C. — On Wednesday afternoon, investigators released dash camera video of the moment a Roxboro police officer shot and killed a man Friday.

Roxboro Chief of Police David Hess had said 45-year-old David Brooks Jr. was armed when he was shot. The video shows him with a shotgun.

Brooks' father, David Brooks Sr., had a chance to review the video alongside Roxboro police officers before its public release. He said, based on what he watched in the recording, that the shooting was not justified.

Caution, this dash-camera footage could be disturbing to some viewers.

In the first clip, an officer is visible shouting, "Drop the gun!" to a man who is standing alongside the road.

The second clip shows officers surrounding the fallen man after he had been shot in the chest.

A third clip zooms in to get a closer look at Brooks' hands and gun in the moments before he was shot.

Another clip from the dash-cam has audio of coarse language. A Roxboro officer says, "He **** pointed the gun at me!" Then, he asks officers to begin giving aid to the fallen man.

Brooks' father responds to the video footage of his son's fatal shooting

"I can't get no sense out of this," said Brooks Sr.

It's a situation Brooks Sr. said he wanted to prevent from happening to any of his children – being shot and killed by a police officer.

"From one to three seconds of him getting out the car – my son was dead," he said.

Last Friday morning, Roxboro Police responded to a call about a man with a gun walking down Old Durham Road.

In the video, an officer is visible stopping his car and turning on his blue lights.

Within minutes, an officer fired one shot into David Brooks Jr.'s chest.

His sudden death sparked protests within the Roxboro community.

"Justice will be served. That’s the bottom line," said Brooks Sr.

Two officers involved in the incident are on paid leave, which is standard procedure when an officer fires a weapon. The name of the officer who fired a shot has not been released.
