GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A man charged last week with abducting his 2-year-old daughter from Massachusetts might fight extradition.

Joel Brown, 43, surrendered to Wayne County deputies last Friday after learning an Amber Alert had been issued for his daughter, Justice Rose Brown.

Authorities said Joel Brown assaulted the girl's mother during an argument at the child's day care in Chicopee, Mass., a week ago and left with the child. Brown denied the allegations, saying he and the girl's mother were engaged in a custody dispute.

During a court hearing, Brown waived a court-appointed attorney and said he wouldn't represent himself. Legal experts said that might be a sign he plans to fight extradition to Massachusetts.
