KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — A near head-on collision between a Chevy Silverado pickup truck and a Chevy Malibu on Bethlehem Road in Knightdale left a 33-year-old man dead and his child injured, according to officials.

Reports said the truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, crossing left of the center line on a sharp curve and hitting the driver's side of the oncoming Malibu.

The Malibu then hit a passenger van parked in front of Cathy Lee Development Center, a local daycare.

The driver in the Malibu was killed. His identity has not been released. His child was slightly injured according to officials.

The truck driver was also injured, suffering leg trauma. Both the truck driver and Malibu passenger were taken to Wake Med.

Police said the truck driver will face charges including misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Neighbors say this is third wreck in 4-6 weeks on that same curved stretch of road.
