VANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities in Vance County are searching for a tractor-trailer that was involved in a deadly hit-and-run wreck involving a pedestrian in a wheelchair.

According to Henderson police, the pedestrian was hit at about 9 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 South and East Andrews Avenue. The pedestrian's name has not been released.

Police said the tractor-trailer involved left the scene on U.S. 1 South toward Vanco Mill Road. Companies that may have had truck drivers in the area at the time of the incident are encouraged to contact the Henderson Police Department. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Neighbor Louise Dubose said she was sitting in her house when she heard the sirens.

"It's really upsetting that someone would hit a person, a disabled person, and not stop to see if they were injured in any way. It is very upsetting," she said.

Anyone with information should call 252-438-4141 or Henderson Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925.
