ASHLAND CITY, TENNESSEE — An Ashland City family is searching for answers after their dog died of an apparent antifreeze poisoning.

The Cheatham County Sheriff's Office said they cannot not name any suspects at this time.

Molly was 7 years old and meant the world to Michael Newport and his family. Newport buried Molly in their backyard.

"If there is something here, I just want justice served," he said. "Molly didn't deserve that."

Newport believes Molly was killed following an ongoing spat with neighbors. He showed News 4 home surveillance video from the weekend the dog died. He said someone from next door is seen walking with a bucket near his yard. Molly got sick a day later.

"Late that night, around 10 o'clock that night, I noticed that the inside of her mouth was ashy gray. Just had lost all pink and all color," Newport said.

Molly died in Newport's arm the next morning at the veterinarian.

The veterinarian wrote in a report for police that Molly died from antifreeze poisoning.

"It's hard to tell a 4-year-old that somebody killed their best friend, but that's what I had to do. I can't lie to her. She knows Molly ain't here," Newport said.

News 4 reached out to the neighbors seen on the video. They said the claims are untrue and they would never hurt the dog.

"We don't know what happened to Molly," the neighbor said. "Molly was a sweet dog and no one in our neighborhood caused her harm. It had to have been accidental what she got into somewhere."
