Angier, N.C. — Angier police on Friday released a four-second clip of video showing a reddish SUV, video police say was taken about four minutes before the hit-and-run death of a young woman.
Katelyn Lothrop was struck by an SUV while attempting to cross N.C. Highway 210 near Fish Drive on Feb. 6 shortly before 7 p.m. Police have said that traffic was heavy at the time and rain and wind were impacting roadways and visibility.
While other passing vehicles stopped to help her, the driver sped away. Police said it appeared to be an accident; however, once the driver left the scene, it became a crime.
Witnesses reported seeing a maroon or burgundy SUV, and the surveillance video shows a vehicle matching that description.
Police asked that anyone who recognizes the vehicle, which might have some damage on the front driver's side, call the Angier Police Department at 919-639-2699 or contact Detective J. Shattuck at 919-410-0199.
