ROSEBORO, N.C. — The family of Kiara Wiggins, who has been missing for more than two weeks, said that they have been suspicious of her husband since the beginning of the couple's 12-year marriage.

"When they got married, you couldn't see her without seeing him," said her mother, Lora Beaman.

Her husband, Carl Wiggins, is the main suspect in his wife's disappearance, officials said. He is facing charges of stealing an SUV in Bladen County — the same car he was driving when officials stopped him Wednesday in Wake County after a chase. .

Beaman said that her son-in-law was controlling and would not let the family visit her daughter. Kiara Wiggins' aunt agreed with Beaman and said that the two were always together.

"He's the key to all this," her aunt said.

Family members watched WRAL News as law enforcement officers chased Carl Wiggins through three counties Wednesday afternoon before his arrest. Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton said that arrest is just the beginning of his investigation.

"The unknown is always what kills you," Thornton said. "How it's going to end, where its going to lead to."

Arresting Carl Wiggins, he said, means authorities are one step closer to finding Kiara Wiggins.
