Man escapes house fire in Wendell

A family escaped a house fire in Wendell on Monday morning.

WENDELL, N.C. — A man and his pets escaped a house fire in Wendell on Monday morning.

One man, a dog and a cat were able to get out of the home safely. A woman and her son left shortly before the fire happened.

The fire burned at a home on the 200 block of Short Street. WRAL learned a neighbor saw flames coming out of the home and rang the doorbell to alert the man.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker found there to be extensive damage at the home. Firefighters don't know what caused the fire.
