WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Family and friends on Monday were struggling to come to terms with the weekend death of a Durham mother and her son, both of whom were killed in a weekend crash in Wake Forest.

Julie Abraham and her 6-year-old son, Nicholas, were killed when her husband Dennis Abraham crashed into another car along NC Highway 98 on Saturday night.

Police said charges have not been filed in the case but investigators said the crash remains under investigation.

Tire tracks were still visible Monday in the yard of a home following the fatal crash. Neighbors said the fatal crash wasn't the first time something like this has happened in the area.

Tim Hill, who lives in the neighborhood, said he has seen and heard his fair share of bad crashes in front of his home along NC Highway 98 in Wake Forest.

“For the frequency that they happen, it’s just too much,” said Hill.

He said he witnessed the crash involving the Durham family Saturday before noon.

“I heard a loud crash, because accidents aren’t too rare of an occurrence,” Hill said.

Investigators say Dennis Abraham failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of NC-98 and Moores Pond Road, colliding with another vehicle.

His wife, Julie Abraham, 41, and 6-year-old son, Nicholas, were passengers in the car.

Neighbors say they rushed to help the accident victims, but it was too late.

Investigators from the State Highway Patrol said a dip in the road affects visibility, making it difficult for drivers approaching Moores Pond Road to see oncoming traffic from Highway 98.

Neighbors say they’ve been pushing for safety changes for years.

Tim Hill worries another fatal crash will occur if changes aren’t made and says that a stop sign would help.
