RED OAK, IOWA — The family Devin Davis say they're left with more questions than answers after their loved one was murdered in the small community of Red Oak, Iowa early Wednesday morning.

"I don't know why somebody would shoot him. He would give you the shirt off of his back. He was that type of person," said Devin's uncle, Lavaaron Davis.

Family says Devin Davis was someone they could always count on. Lavaaron Davis remembers the day his first nephew was born.

"This is kinda telling my age, but I went out and bought a Polaroid that day just so I could have pictures of him," he said "Lots of laughs. Lively. We're really going to miss him."

Now, Lavaaron is left with 27 years of unforgettable memories. He says Devin's passion was music – he was a part of rapper group. He was also a father. Devin's son is just 19-months-old.

"He loved him with all of the love he could give. He truly, truly loved him," said Devin's grandma, Kathaleen.

She's not only dealing with the loss of her grandson; Kathaleen's husband died last week. She just wants her great-grand baby to know what a kind and loving father he had.

"He loved his family deeply. His son was the highlight of his life," she said.

This close-knit family is hoping others will hug their loved ones especially tight.

If you'd like to help out the Davis family a GoFundMe Page has been set up to help with funeral expenses.

Authorities do have a suspect in custody. Kevin Duane Staley of Red Oak is facing charges for voluntary manslaughter. He is in jail with a $100,000 bond.
