Family Dollar clerk fights back when customer tries to stab her

A Family Dollar clerk held her own Thursday against a customer who pushed through plexiglass at her checkout counter and tried to stab her.

SHARPSBURG, N.C. — A Family Dollar clerk in Sharpsburg held her own Thursday against a customer who pushed through plexiglass at her checkout counter and tried to stab her.

Surveillance video shows the man pay for an item then push the barrier and stab at the clerk, who responds by beating him back with her hands.

Police said the man was attempting to steal cash from the register. The Family Dollar clerk then throws something at the man as he leaves the store.

The video then shows the woman cradling her left hand in her right and signaling for help.

Soon after, the clerk called 911 and police arrived. They were able to find the man who they believe was responsible.

Police arrested Mohammud Alsaleh, 34, on Thursday in connection with the robbery. He's been charged with attempted armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury. His bond was set at $250,000.
