Evva Hanes, the namesake of Mrs. Hanes Hand-Made Moravian Cookies in Clemmons, has died. Her company posted a memorial to her on Facebook on Thursday saying, "She touched many of our lives with her love, her cookies and her faith."

Hanes got her famed recipe for the gingery, thin treats from her grandmother. She told WRAL's Tar Heel Traveler that she'd sit by the stove while her grandmother baked, drinking from a bottle of milk.

As the business took off, cookies took over.

"We made them in the upstairs kitchen, then the downstairs kitchen. Everything spelled like cookies," Hanes said in a 2020 interview.
