ZEBULON, N.C. — A convicted sex offender and kidnapper was charged Thursday with having a Facebook page, according to an arrest warrant filed by the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

Brandlous Pierre Montague, 25, of 4107 Zebulon Road in Zebulon, faces one count of a sex offender using a social networking site. He was placed in the Wake County jail under a $25,000 secured bond.

A 2008 state law bans any registered sex offender from using a social networking site where children can be members.

Montague was given probation for 2007 convictions for sexual battery, second-degree kidnapping and assault by strangulation, according to state Department of Correction records. The victim was a 20-year-old woman, the state sex offender registry states.

Montague's probation was revoked a year later when he was convicted of assault by strangulation and assault on a female, DOC records show. He then served more than 2 years in prison and was released last July.
