BENSON, N.C. — A former Benson town attorney has been indicted on embezzlement charges in connection with the theft of more than $300,000 from three people.

A grand jury indicted Donald Alan Parker, of Suwanee, Ga., on three counts of embezzlement in connection with alleged thefts between January and April 2006.

Parker with the Benson town attorney for more than 25 years before leaving in May 2006, Town Manager Keith Langdon said.

Langdon said, as far as he knows, the charges against Parker are strictly related to his private law practice and aren't linked to his work with the town.

The indictments allege Parker took $262,881 from a couple in January 2006 and $32,467 and $10,876 from two men in April 2006.
