Ex-police officer arrested on child sex charges

Apex police arrested Greg Perkins, a former Durham police officer, on seven counts of child sex abuse.

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities on Friday arrested a former Durham police officer on seven counts of child sex abuse.

Apex police, with assistance from Raleigh police, arrested Greg Perkins, 40, of 325 Bothwell St. in Raleigh, was charged with two counts of forcible sex offenses and multiple charges of statutory rape, among other charges.

Apex police Capt. Ann Stevens confirmed that Perkins was an officer for the Durham Police Department but did not have details on the dates of his employment.

Perkins was being held in the Wake County jail Friday evening under a $1 million bond.
