FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A former Cumberland County minister has been indicted on sex charges in connection with alleged offenses that occurred nearly 30 years ago.

Anthony Phillips Denton was indicted on 16 counts of taking indecent liberties with children. The incidents were alleged to have taken place between 1977 and 1981, when Denton was serving as a minister at Berean Baptist Church.

Denton, who now lives in Jacksonville, Fla., has been arrested on a fugitive from justice warrant and was being held without bond in jail in Jacksonville awaiting extradition to North Carolina, authorities said.
