JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A former Marine Corps sergeant pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges stemming from the shooting death of his wife in 2014.

Christopher Michael Skaggs, 36, told an Onslow County court that he shot his wife outside their Richland home in while their three children were inside.

An autopsy showed Jordan Skaggs was shot 15 times.

Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee says Skaggs admitted to the shooting and said he did it because his wife was nagging him for a year and a half. Skaggs told investigators he served three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and suffered from PTSD.

He will spend the rest of his life in jail. By accepting the plea, Skaggs avoided the possibility of the death penalty.
