Ex-Employee Files Lawsuit Against DMV

— A former employee of the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles filed a lawsuit Tuesday claiming he was fired for raising concerns about issuing drivers licenses to people who might be in the United States illegally.

Michael Byrne, an attorney for the plaintiff, Jeffrey M. Brown, 34, said supervisors punished his client because they did not like him asking questions about the residency status of applicants.

Brown, worked for the DMV from July 2006 until April, Byrne said, until the division fired him.

DMV spokeswoman Margie Howell said she could not comment on the matter because the DMV had not yet received the lawsuit.
