Events this week: Durham celebrates 150 years, Bulls home opener and more

RALEIGH, N.C. — There is plenty to do in the Triangle this week!

25 Year Anniversary of Offspring's Smash (The Pour House Music Hall, 224 S. Blount Street, Raleigh) - This is a fundraiser for the LGBT Center of Raleigh. There will be six local bands performing two songs each from Offspring's Smash.

Angelique Kidjo (Carolina Theatre of Durham, 309 W. Morgan Street, Durham) - The Beninese singer-songwriter, actress and activist is noted for her diverse musical influences and creative music videos.

The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical (DPAC, 123 Vivian Street, Durham) - Inspired by the best-selling Disney-Hyperion novel by Rick Riordan, this musical is one for the whole family.

Downright Rotten Dinner (Dashi, 415 East Chapel Hill Street, Durham) - This five-course menu will highlight how "rotten foods reveal themselves through Japanese cuisine." Diners will enjoy house-made miso, koji, black garlic, natto and freshly shaved katsuobushi. Tickets are $55. Attendees must register.

Kodak Black (The Ritz, 2820 Industrial Drive, Raleigh) - Bill K. Kapri, better known by his stage name Kodak Black, is an American rapper and songwriter.

Music Bingo (Woody's City Market, 205 Wolfe Street, Raleigh) - It's bingo with a beat! Test your music knowledge and bingo skills at 7 p.m.

How I Learned to Drive (PlayMakers Repertory Company, 120 Country Club Road, Chapel Hill) - At once compassionate, heartbreaking, and unexpectedly funny, this Pulitzer Prize-winning play chronicles one woman's journey to break the cycle--and silence--surrounding her sexual abuse at the hands of a beloved family member. Shows run through April 21.

The Gloaming (Carolina Theatre of Durham, 309 W. Morgan Street, Durham) - The Gloaming works elements of jazz and experimental music into a distinctly Irish foundation, creating a transcendent experience that recalls post-rock.

Primavera en Durham (The Durham Hotel, 315 East Chapel Hill Street, Durham) - Primavera en Durham is a collaboration between Chef Miguel Torres and The Durham Hotel celebrating spring with the flavors of his childhood in Guanajuato, Mexico. The menu will be served all day April 9-23.

The two-time defending Governors' Cup champion Durham Bulls host their 2019 home opener on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. against the Columbus Clippers. Fourteen different food items will have discounted pricing, and stick around after the game for fireworks. The home stand continues through Sunday. The Bulls will offer variety of new food items at Durham Bulls Athletic Park for the new season, highlighted by the team's Wiener Waffle, Mac and Cheese Dog, Patty Melt, Waffle Mac and Mushroom Swiss Burger. All items have been created by Bull City Hospitality, the Bulls' food and beverage company.

Durham 150th Tap Takeover (The Glass Jug Beer Lab, 5410 Highway 55, Durham) - To celebrate Durham's birthday -- and the city's diversity -- the city's seven breweries brewed a beer with a local Durham partner. Taste all the beers at The Glass Jug starting at 5 p.m.

Canes Playoff Watch Party (Carolina Ale House: Downtown Raleigh, 510 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh) - The street in front of the bar will shut down to traffic two hours prior to puck drop and will feature a large projection screen to watch the game plus beverage stations nearby. Each watch party will include giveaways, visits from Stormy and the Pepsi Storm Squad and more.

The Price Is Right Live (DPAC, 123 Vivian Street, Durham) - This hit interactive stage show gives eligible individuals the chance to "Come On Down" and play classic games from television's most popular game show.

The Milk Carton Kids (Meymandi Concert Hall, 2 E. South Street, Raleigh) - The two-time Grammy nominees will perform with a full band for this concert.

Carolina Ballet Presents Monet Impressions (Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, 2 E. South Street, Raleigh) - This story ballet is based on Monet’s life and features a sweeping impressionistic second act based on his famous garden paintings. Performances run through April 14.

Southern Women's Show (Jim Graham Building at State Fairgrounds, 1025 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh) - Discover hundreds of boutiques filled with the latest fashions, trendy jewelry, gourmet treats, health and beauty and more. Attendees also enjoy fashion shows, top chefs and celebrity guests.
